A restructuring exercise was undertaken by PNB to consolidate port and logistics operations, resulting in the establishment of NCB Holdings Bhd, which owned 100% of KCT and 100% of Kontena Nasional.

Klang Port Management (KPM) took over all remaining port services from the Port Klang Authority (PKA) under the Phase 2 of the port privatization programme.
17 March 1986
PKA's container terminal became the first major port facility in Malaysia to be privatized. The new operator was Klang Container Terminal (KCT), owned 49% by PKA and 51% by Konnas Terminal Klang.

The Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak declared the container terminal open.

The MV Tokyo Bay made history as the first full container vessel to dock at Port Klang.
PKA commenced commercial operations with the completion of four new wharves.

Management of the port shifted from the Malayan Railway to the newly established Port Swettenham Authority, later renamed the Port Klang Authority (PKA).
The port's throughput reached the one million tonne mark for the first time.
Trade recovered following World War 1, and the recorded tonnage became the second highest before World War II.
15 September 1901
Official opening of Port Swettenham, named after the High Commissioner for the Malay States. The port facilities were handed over to the Ways and Works Department of the Malayan Railway Administration (MRA).
