Container services are operating at dedicated container terminals, namely CT1, CT2,
CT3 and CT4 which are fully equipped with state-of-the-art handling equipment and
facilities to meet the growing demand for container services. The four terminals
offer a combined quay length close to 3.3 km and a depth alongside of 11.5 to 17
meters which are fully capable of accommodating vessels up to 200,000 displacement
tonnes. The landside and container handling operations are supported by an array
of quay cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes, straddle carriers, prime movers, trailers
and high stackers.
The wide and extensive connectivity provided by leading global shipping lines has
helped Northport to leverage and emerge as a major regional transshipments hub port.
Northport now offers more links to worldwide ports than any other ports in Malaysia
and has emerged as one of the most important gateway ports in the world.
Highlight : Container Terminal 4
Northport’s new wharf infrastructure, Wharf 8A which forms part of the latest container
terminal facilities, Container Terminal 4 (CT4) provides bigger capacity and higher
productivity in container handling operations. This new wharf has the ability to
berth vessels with deep draft of up to 17 meters. With an additional 350 meters added
to Northport’s quay line, it injects an additional 600,000 TEUs to Northport’s total
container handling capacity. Wharf 8A is equipped with 4 new quay cranes with an
outreach of 24 across on the vessel. The quay cranes are fitted with state-of-the-art
Bubenzer-Malmedie Snag Load protection device to ensure its safe operation, making
Northport the first port in the region to acquire quay cranes equipped with this
sophisticated technology.
